Local Rodeo Champion Coy Wilson Gears Up for Junior National Finals in Las Vegas
At KCSI/KOAK we’re proud to spotlight the incredible talents right here in our southwest Iowa community. 14-year-old rodeo sensation Coy Wilson joined us alongside his Mom, Kerry Pryor to share his thrilling journey in the saddle bronc world. Coy, already a seasoned competitor at such a young age, opened up about his recent wins, travels, and big dreams ahead. It’s stories like Coy’s that remind us of the hard work, humility, and heart that define rural life and family bonds.
The young champ has crisscrossed the country, competing in states like Texas, Arizona, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Missouri, and right here in Iowa. “We’ve been in Texas, Arizona, Montana… Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Missouri,” listed Kerry, highlighting the central and western U.S. adventures. Coy’s highlights include winning the IMRA Finals in Missouri, taking first in Oklahoma and Colorado, second in Arizona and Montana, and a round win in Herrick, South Dakota.
Looking ahead, Coy’s eyes are on Vegas in early December, followed by events like the Denver Stock Show in January. Long-term, he aims for his PRCA pro card at 18. “Hopefully get my pro card,” he stated. Coy’s story is a testament to the grit of our local youth, supported by family who handles the travel logistics. “Coy maps ’em out… I’ll just figure it out,” Coy said of planning rodeos. ” We’re rooting for you, Coy—keep making southwest Iowa proud!
