Stanton-Red Oak Dance Team Gears Up for State Competition December 4-6: Insights from Coach and Dancers
STANTON/RED OAK, Iowa – As southwest Iowa’s high school sports scene ramps up for winter, the combined Stanton-Red Oak Dance Team is hitting its stride. Coach Brooklyn Adams and team members Addison Jones, Caitlin Britten, and Jayda Biggerstaff shared their excitement for the upcoming state competition and reflected on a season of growth and collaboration.
This marks the first year Stanton and Red Oak have joined forces for the dance team, a move Coach Adams calls “really nice” for building numbers and skills. Founded in 2018 by Adams herself during her high school days, the team has evolved from halftime performances to competitive outings, including nationals two years ago.
With 12 members total, the squad practices Sundays in the Stanton gym, focusing on precision through “cleaning” routines—repeating sections until every move syncs perfectly.
Coach Adams praised their unison: “This year’s the best—they look like one person out there.” The dancers encouraged younger students to try out, noting it’s welcoming regardless of experience.
