The Red Oak City Council formally accepted the city’s Fiscal Year 2025 annual independent audit during its regular meeting Monday, July 6.
The audit was presented by Dustin Opatz with BerganKDV. City officials said the audit provided an overall picture of Red Oak’s financial condition and reflected continued work by city staff to improve the accuracy of financial records.
Mayor Tim Fridolph said some of the items noted in the audit are common challenges for smaller cities, including segregation of duties, because City Hall does not have enough staff to separate every financial responsibility among multiple employees.
City Administrator Lisa Kotter said one of the areas of major progress involved bank reconciliation. She said prior records had not always been fully reconciled to zero because certain items, including investments and CDs, had not been properly booked into the general ledger.
Kotter said the city has now reconciled records through the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, which allows staff to move forward with more timely monthly reconciliation work.
The audit received an unmodified opinion, which officials described as the best opinion an auditor can issue.
The council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-61, formally accepting the Fiscal Year 2025 independent audit.
