Montgomery County hires part-time Veterans Affairs clerk
Montgomery County has a new part-time Veterans Affairs clerk, and a plan for who takes the office when Director Ed Young retires.
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved Shawn Kaiser for 21 hours a week at $20 an hour.
Young brought the recommendation. Kaiser is a veteran and also helps with farming, so the job was set up as part-time rather than full-time while he trains and gets certified.
Certification classes for the job are offered only twice a year. This year’s class ended October 2, so Kaiser’s next chance is in February. Young said publicly that his goal is to retire by May. Kaiser still has paperwork to finish this week and is expected to start soon after that.
The Veterans Affairs update was the longest item on an otherwise short Tuesday agenda
The board meets again Tuesday, October 13, at 9 a.m. in the courthouse basement.
