Nigel Horton Named NAESP National Distinguished Principal® from Iowa
The Griswold Community School District proudly announces that Nigel J. Horton, principal of Griswold Elementary, has been recognized as a National Distinguished Principal by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).
The NDP program honors outstanding elementary and middle-level principals who demonstrate exceptional leadership and commitment to student success.
Selected through a competitive process, Horton was recognized for outstanding contributions to education, school leadership, and the broader community.
“I am honored to represent the students and staff of Griswold Elementary,” said Horton. “I know firsthand how special the people of this community and school district are. Kids are always put first in everything they do, and for that, I am deeply grateful.”
It is particularly fitting to acknowledge the work of principals in October because it is National Principals Month, which was established to recognize and honor the contributions of school principals toward the success of the nation’s students and encourage awareness of their significance.
Mr. Horton, along with 38 school leaders from across the country will travel to the nation’s capital Oct. 15-16, 2026, to participate in two days of events that culminate in an awards banquet to honor their accomplishments. The program will be held at The Willard InterContinental in Washington, D.C.
Griswold CSD Superintendent David Henrichs comments on Horton’s recognition noting, “Principal Horton consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to the success of not only our district and students, but all students across the state. His recognition from NAESP is a well-deserved honor and is truly a reflection of his impact on our school community.”
