The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man who died following an industrial accident in Bartlett earlier this month

FREMONT COUNTY, Iowa — The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a man who died following an industrial accident in Bartlett earlier this month.

According to authorities, Blaine N. Schoening, 66, of Council Bluffs, was killed in an explosion on March 24, 2026, at approximately 12:09 p.m. The incident occurred at J-Dogg Salvage Yard, located at 2050 Waubonsie Avenue in Bartlett.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of an explosion. Upon arrival, crews confirmed Schoening had sustained fatal injuries while conducting salvage operations involving a fuel tank. No other injuries were reported.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the incident in coordination with the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office and Iowa OSHA.

Authorities extended condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and colleagues
