Hotel-motel panel sends $34,900 out for five projects
Council approved $34,900 in hotel-motel tax grants Monday on the recommendation of the Tourism and Recreation Committee.
Cotter listed the awards Tuesday: $900 for Heritage Hill tour brochures; $10,000 toward a Grand Theatre roof; $4,000 for a Behind the Shield community outreach trailer; $10,000 for accessibility and improvements at the Wilson Performing Arts Center outdoor music park; and $10,000 to the Red Oak Chamber for Junction Days 2027.
Fridolph said the program has paid out more than $1 million since it started after a 2012 vote. The committee this cycle also capped extensions at two six-month periods. After that an applicant has to come back and reapply.
Money still does not go out until the committee sees proof of spending.
