Red Oak Superintendent Ron Lorenz joined KCSI to talk through a wide-ranging set of topics—from the rapid growth of artificial intelligence to the proposed 2026–27 school calendar and early legislative issues that could affect local school budgets
Red Oak Superintendent Ron Lorenz stopped by to talk about a few big topics: how AI is changing the way we work (and why “trust but verify” matters), the proposed 2026–27 school calendar, and early legislative issues that could affect local school funding.
A public hearing on the proposed calendar is set for February 18. The draft calendar (posted on the district website) includes an August 24, 2026 start date, a goal of finishing before Memorial Day, and a proposal to return Friday early dismissals to a full two hours for professional development.
We also discussed conference realignment timing (committee met Jan. 26; decision expected in February) and shared congratulations to Dayton Gusman, a Hawkeye 10 wrestling champion
