Assistant Principal and Activities Director Jon Weinrich brought a full research report on adding soccer to the Shenandoah School Board Monday night, and the board will vote on whether to make it a formal sport next month.
Weinrich surveyed students in grades 7 through 12 who are in person, in IGNITE, or homeschooled and already participating in district activities. The answers ran both directions.

Costs are part of the discussion. Nelson called the report exciting and the opportunity real, and said a soft start would let the district see what the program looks like before it commits to a full season. The board took the information Monday and is scheduled to decide next month.
“If we can have a soft start and see what this looks like, I think that would be a positive opportunity for our kids,” she said. “More to come.
