Fremont County Deputies Make Multiple Drug Arrests in Separate Highway Stops

Fremont County Sheriff’s Office deputies, including members of the K9 unit, made two separate drug-related arrests this week following traffic stops on local highways. Both incidents resulted in the seizure of controlled substances and multiple charges.

August 18 – Methamphetamine Arrest in Sidney

On August 18, a Fremont County deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Highway 275. The driver was identified as 48-year-old Keri Lynn Beran of Sidney. A deputy with the Fremont County K9 Unit arrived on scene and deployed K9 Storm, who indicated the odor of narcotics in the vehicle. A probable cause search led to the seizure of approximately 8.5 grams of methamphetamine.

Deputies later obtained and executed a search warrant at Beran’s residence in Sidney. That search resulted in the recovery of additional methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Beran was arrested and charged with:

• Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine (Class B felony)
• Failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D felony)
• Keeping a premise for a controlled substance (aggravated misdemeanor)
• Keeping a vehicle for a controlled substance (aggravated misdemeanor)
• Possession of marijuana, first offense (serious misdemeanor)
• Possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)

She is being held at the Fremont County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.

August 21 – Cocaine Seizure on Highway 2

Three days later, on August 21, a deputy with the Fremont County K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Highway 2. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Jordan Paul Castro of Fremont, California. The passenger was identified as 22-year-old Moonlight Journie King of Bedford, Indiana.

A probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately two ounces of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Castro was charged with:

• Possession with intent to deliver cocaine (less than 100 grams) (Class C felony)
• Failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D felony)
• Keeping a premise or vehicle for a controlled substance (aggravated misdemeanor)
• Possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)

King was charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (cocaine) (serious misdemeanor)
• Failure to affix a drug tax stamp (Class D felony)

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

These cases reflect ongoing efforts by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and its K9 unit to interdict illegal drugs traveling through southwest Iowa.
