A fatal two-vehicle crash was reported Monday afternoon, August 24, at the intersection of eastbound Highway 30 and Chamberlain Drive.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. and involved a 2015 Lexus ES 350 driven by 33-year-old Mohit Kailashchandra Sharma of Denison and a 1990 Peterbilt driven by 72-year-old Michael Leonard Krajicek of Denison.

The State Patrol reports the Lexus was westbound on Highway 30 when it turned onto Chamberlain Drive. The Peterbilt was traveling eastbound on Highway 30. The report states the Lexus was on Chamberlain Drive between the eastbound and westbound lanes of the divided four-lane highway before pulling out from Chamberlain Drive in front of the eastbound vehicle, resulting in a collision.

Sharma suffered serious injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. The report indicates he was wearing a seat belt.

The report identifies 29-year-old Himalkumar Mehulkumar Patel of Denison as the passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene. The report indicates Patel was not wearing a seat belt.

The Iowa State Patrol said the crash remains under investigation. The report lists the carrier involved as M&J Quality Trucking of Denison and indicates no hazardous materials were involved.
