Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Report, 9-8-26 Meeting

 

 

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Chair Charla Schmid stopped by KCSI Tuesday morning, just after a brisk regular session that lasted about 15 minutes. All five supervisors were present. Mark Peterson joined by Zoom. The agenda and minutes were approved as presented. No one spoke during audience comments, and none of the supervisors had weekly committee assignment updates after the Labor Day weekend.

 

Secondary Roads: Rock, Maintenance, and Two Railroad Bridges

County Engineer’s staff hauled rock to the Coburg, Elliott, Morton Mills, and Stanton areas and completed equipment maintenance. The two railroad-bridge replacements remain the biggest construction story in the secondary-road system.

Q Avenue railroad bridge: The contractor is taking the crane apart and getting ready to drive pile in the north abutment. Crews were hauling dirt from Q Avenue to L Avenue on Tuesday.

L Avenue railroad bridge: The contractor is spreading the dirt hauled from the Q Avenue site.

Those projects were awarded last winter to A.M. Cohron & Son, Inc., of Atlantic. Tuesday’s claims packet shows why the weekly bill list was unusually large: two identical payments of $207,391.00 to A.M. Cohron & Son — one for the L Avenue bridge and one for the Q Avenue bridge — account for $414,782 of the $524,849.19 in claims approved for Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Pipe Culvert Letting Set for Sept. 29

Under secondary roads, the board approved a letting date for a new pipe culvert, project RO3035 on 165th Street. Bids will be opened Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 9:15 a.m., during the regular supervisors meeting. That is the last Tuesday of September. The board will open bids that morning as part of the session.

Planning and Zoning: Ordinance Updates Sept. 14

Schmid also flagged a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Monday, Sept. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the county engineer’s office. Commissioners will discuss updates to the county zoning ordinance. The meeting is open to the public.
