The Clarinda Community School District is working with community partners on a major challenge grant that could generate up to $600,000 for school facility improvements.
Superintendent Jeff Privia says the Clarinda Foundation and the Cardinal Fund are asking the community to help raise $200,000.
The foundation will match that amount, and it has already committed $200,000 toward the effort. The funds would help address HVAC upgrades, electrical improvements, and other facility needs within the district.
One local business is helping with the effort. FF is offering a three-cent-per-gallon fuel giveback, with proceeds going toward the challenge grant.
The district is also exploring expanded childcare options in partnership with Grandma’s House daycare. A survey is currently available on the Grandma’s House Facebook page to gauge interest in possible before- or after-school childcare services.
Privia also noted continued academic progress in the district, including Clarinda Middle School being recognized by U.S. News as one of the top middle schools.
