Red Oak Police: No Injuries Reported in East Oak Street Crash; Oakland Man Arrested on Driving Charge
Red Oak police responded to a two-vehicle property-damage crash in the 400 block of East Oak Street early Monday, and later that morning arrested an Oakland man on a separate driving charge.
According to a Red Oak Police Department accident report, the crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. May 4 on East Oak Street near a driveway access. Assistant Chief Derrick Walter reported that a 2011 Ford Focus driven by Todd Michael Rensch, 30, of Villisca, was backing out of a driveway and did not see a 2016 Ford Transit T-150 driven by Donald Evan McFarland, 55, of Red Oak, which was traveling east on East Oak Street.
Police said the Focus backed into the van, causing property damage. No one was injured, and both vehicles were driven from the scene. The report estimated damage at $3,000 to each vehicle and listed Rensch as at fault for improperly starting or backing.
Later Monday, at 9:30 a.m., Red Oak police arrested Corey Andrew Stephens, 40, of Oakland, on a charge of driving while barred, identified in the department’s arrest report and press release as an aggravated misdemeanor under Iowa law. Police said Stephens was arrested near 180th Street and Highway 34 and was taken to the Montgomery County Jail, where he was being held on a $2,000 bond.
The crash and the arrest were listed in separate Red Oak Police Department reports from May 4.
