A matching challenge through the Clarinda Foundation is helping support facility needs in the Clarinda school district through the Cardinal Fund
Amy McQueen, Executive Director of the Clarinda Economic Development Corporation, said the fund is connected to ongoing needs in the district, including aging HVAC systems, security needs and other infrastructure-related repairs.
McQueen said the Clarinda Foundation is matching donations to the Cardinal Fund dollar-for-dollar, up to $200,000, through the end of the month. She said the fund had recently reached roughly $160,000 to $165,000, putting it close to the $200,000 goal.
The Clarinda Economic Development Corporation has contributed $10,000 to the Cardinal Fund, which will also be matched through the Clarinda Foundation challenge.
McQueen said the donation reflects CEDC’s belief that strong schools are essential to the future of Clarinda.
She said education is one of the key components of a strong community, along with health care, local leadership and philanthropic support. McQueen noted that school quality is often one of the first questions families and businesses ask when considering a community.
The matching challenge remains open through the end of the month. McQueen said those interested in donating can contact Becky at the Clarinda Foundation for more information.
She also noted that Agri-land is supporting the effort through a fuel promotion, with a portion of gas purchases going toward the Cardinal Fund and also being eligible for the Clarinda Foundation match.
