Commander Ernie Robinson of VFW Post 7224 joined us on the radio to talk about the mission of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the work the local post is doing to support veterans in southwest Iowa.
Robinson says the organization’s primary goal is helping fellow veterans when they face challenges, whether that means building wheelchair ramps, helping with travel expenses for medical care, or assisting with unexpected bills.
The Shenandoah-based post has grown more active in recent years and now participates in nearly 20 events annually, including parades, color guard ceremonies and community outreach.
Veterans who served in combat zones or received qualifying medals may be eligible to join the VFW. The post meets the last Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building in Shenandoah.
Veterans who want more information or are interested in joining can contact Ernie Robinson at 712-621-1682.
