County Engineer Karen Albert gave a lengthy secondary-roads update at the Supervisors meeting 9-22-26
• Crews hauled riprap to the county farm for a Hungry Canyons slope-stabilization site on Aspen Avenue. Other work includes edge-rut repair throughout the county, cold patch on Viking Lake Road, spot rock in the Wales and Stanton areas, and rock hauled to the Stanton area. Road hauls for the calendar year are nearing an end.
• Drillers are expected Wednesday and Thursday this week, weather permitting, at Bridge GR3503 on 270th Street between J and K Avenues, taking borings for a new bridge design. The road will not close, but flaggers will keep traffic to one lane.
• Albert asked farmers to minimize travel from one field access to another during or the day after rain. Recent wet weather has increased ruts in right-of-way at field entrances and mud on gravel and some paved roads. She said motor graders each cover more than 80 miles of gravel and 20 miles of dirt and cannot repair the same spots daily. If repeated wet-weather use of an entrance is necessary, she asked landowners to place gravel in the approach.
• Q Avenue railroad bridge: the contractor is forming the north abutment, with a pour planned the next day. Crews from the L Avenue and Q Avenue jobs have been combined. The last set of Q Avenue beams is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1.
• L Avenue railroad bridge: the contractor has been cleaning the site and burning debris. A pre-lift meeting for the beams was scheduled Tuesday. Beams are expected Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 28–30, weather permitting. A large crane will sit on the south side of the tracks and arrive on seven truckloads. The haul route was not yet set.
• Preliminary plans for the J Avenue box culvert are complete. Easement paperwork is being prepared. The Planning and Zoning Commission meets Thursday, Sept. 24, at 5:30 p.m. at the engineer’s office to go through the draft county ordinance line by line. No vote will be taken
