The Mills-Montgomery County Cattlemen are launching a new, education-focused event for area cattle producers and anyone interested in the cattle industry: the First Annual Beef Symposium, set for Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Elks Lodge in Red Oak.
Grant Vrba and Connor Hultman explained the goal is simple: bring high-quality cattle information to the local level, in a format that’s practical, timely, and open to everyone. The symposium is free to attend, including the meal, and is designed to complement (not replace) the Cattlemen’s annual banquet.
The evening begins with a 5:30 p.m. social, followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. Organizers expect the main program to begin around 6:30 p.m., with the event wrapping up by approximately 8:00–8:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP, as the meal count is capped at 100 (for food planning). A bar will be available upstairs through the Elks Lodge, with beverages purchased separately.
Membership and local support
Vrba and Hultman also highlighted that Mills-Montgomery County Cattlemen membership is not limited to cattle producers. Individuals and businesses can join through a “Friends of the Industry” membership option, and organizers noted that funds raised locally largely stay local and are spent within the counties.
Save the date: Cattlemen’s Banquet Feb. 7
The Mills-Montgomery County Cattlemen’s Banquet is still on the calendar and will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the White Fair Building. Tickets are $35, featuring a prime rib dinner, entertainment, games/raffles, and an auction. The banquet date has been moved slightly earlier than in some past years to better fit producer schedules during calving season.
