Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports arrest after pursuit
RED OAK, Iowa — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports a man was arrested following a pursuit early Tuesday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies attempted a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Highway 34 at approximately 2:24 a.m. on September 22, 2026. The driver was identified as 37-year-old Markus Allen Crom of Bellevue, Nebraska.
The sheriff’s office says Crom failed to yield, and a high-speed pursuit began through Montgomery and Mills counties before ending in a foot pursuit in the 500 block of North 4th Street in Red Oak at approximately 2:50 a.m.
Crom was arrested and charged with felony eluding, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, first offense, and cited for no valid driver’s license.
Crom was transported to the Montgomery County Jail, where he was being held on no bond pending a court appearance.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Montgomery County K9 Unit, Mills County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Unit, Red Oak Police Department, Montgomery County Communications Center and Mills County Communications Center.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
