(Red Oak, Iowa) – Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Friday evening, Montgomery County 911 received several calls reporting a fire involving a detached garage in the 100 block of East Maple Street in Red Oak.
The Red Oak Fire Department, along with automatic mutual aid partners, was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found active fire on the exterior of the detached garage, with limited extension into the interior. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and additional incoming mutual aid units were disregarded.
The fire was determined to have been caused by improperly discarded burning material from a previous fire pit use. No injuries were reported.
Assisting agencies included the Red Oak Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The Elliott Volunteer Fire Department and Stanton Fire and Rescue Department were initially dispatched but were later disregarded.
