Red Oak Police arrest Essex man after vehicle reportedly reached 78 mph in 20 mph zone

RED OAK, Iowa — A Red Oak traffic stop early Saturday morning led to the arrest of an Essex man on an Operating While Intoxicated charge.

According to the Red Oak Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop at approximately 3:30 a.m. on March 8, 2026, in the 2000 block of North 8th Street. In the narrative, police said the vehicle was traveling 78 miles per hour in a 20-mile-per-hour zone.

Following an investigation, officers arrested 29-year-old Collin Earl Robert McDowell of Essex. McDowell was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, first offense, a serious misdemeanor under Iowa Code 321J.2(2)(a).

McDowell was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and held on a $1,000 bond. The arrest was made by the Red Oak Police Department.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court
