Red Oak police say unsafe backing led to two-vehicle crash on East Reed Street

A two-vehicle crash in the 300 block of East Reed Street in Red Oak on Friday morning left one passenger with minor injuries and resulted in a written warning for unsafe backing, according to a Red Oak Police Department accident report.

Police said the crash happened at about 10:03 a.m. May 1. According to the report, a 2023 Ford F-250 driven by Shane Michael Harrison, 56, of Griswold, was backing out of a parking stall when it struck a 2007 Ford Mustang driven by Ethan Allan Hummel, 18, of Red Oak, which was traveling west.

Investigators reported that the pickup’s driver had been “looking but did not see” the Mustang. The report states Harrison was issued a written warning for unsafe backing.

Police listed minor damage to the pickup and severe damage to the Mustang, which was towed from the scene. The pickup was left at the scene.

The Mustang’s driver complained of pain but did not require rescue, according to the report. A passenger in the Mustang, identified as 18-year-old Lee Ann Comstock of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was listed with suspected minor, non-incapacitating injuries and was transported by Red Oak EMS.
