Stanton Community Development Director Jenna Ramsey opened by thanking everyone who helped make the holiday season a success—from the American Legion bringing Santa to town, to the Old Lumberyard Event Center holiday trees, Holiday Hoopla, local churches, and downtown businesses that helped create a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
On the youth sports front, Ramsey congratulated the Stanton 3rd and 4th grade Little Vikes basketball team for earning first-place finishes the last couple of weekends and recognized all Little Vikes/Vikings teams for strong tournament results. She also thanked the volunteers and coaches who make youth sports possible.
Families can also take advantage of indoor winter activities at the Stanton Public Library, including Tiny Tot Story Hour. Another session is expected in February, and Ramsey thanked Shelly Anderson and the library board for their work providing activities for young families during the winter months.
Downtown continues to see strong traffic and energy, with businesses drawing visitors—including Brown Shoe Fit visiting recently, which helped bring shoppers into Stanton.
Valentine’s Day weekend and Second Saturdays in Stanton
A key focus is the new “Second Saturdays in Stanton” promotion, where downtown businesses commit to being open on the second Saturday each month—often with specials and added events. February’s Second Saturday lines up with Valentine’s Day, and several promotions are planned:
Whitetail Valley Cellars
  • Valentine’s Day hours: 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM
  • Featuring a chocolate fondue for two special, plus regular menu items.
Gibbs Chophouse
  • Reservation-only, ticketed Valentine’s dinner (coursed dining)
  • Seating times: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM or 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM
  • Cost: $75 per person
  • Reservations: Message Gibbs Chophouse on Facebook (preferred) or call/text Ashley Starmer at 712-308-3009
  • Reservation details needed: name, phone number, dinner time, number of tickets, and each guest’s menu and drink choices.
The Carpenter’s Wife
  • Open 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Special vendor: Peaceful Acres Farmstead (salsa, jams, jelly)
The Market
  • Thursday–Saturday: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Sunday: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • A barbecue lunch is also planned to start at noon (hosted in the Lewellen Photography studio space).
Upcoming dates to note
  • Saturday, January 31 (3:00 PM): January Book Club at the Stanton Public Library (adult book club; pick up the book at the library beforehand)
  • Saturday, January 31 (9:00 AM–2:00 PM): FFA Toy Show at the White 4-H Exhibit Building
  • Saturday, March 28: Marketplace off Main craft/vendor show
