Full Meeting Report:
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution 2026-28 on Monday, creating a temporary part-time budget, finance and human resources clerk position for up to one year.
The resolution passed on a 3-2 vote. Supervisors Mark Peterson and Alex Burton voted against the measure.
Board Chair Charla Schmid said the proposal was revised after last week’s discussion, when the position did not have full support. Schmid said she spoke with Vice Chair Bryant Amos about adjusting the idea to make the position temporary, part-time and limited to one year.
The position will be for 30 hours per week and will report directly to the Board of Supervisors. Schmid said candidates will be interviewed by the board.
Schmid said the position is not intended to serve only the auditor’s office. She said the treasurer’s office also needs help, and the county has needs related to budgeting, finance and human resources.
A pay range has not yet been set. Schmidt said the board first wanted to determine whether the position would be approved. The county will now move forward with advertising for the position and developing a more detailed job description.
Schmid said the resolution calls for a review of the position after six months, but she believes the board should take an earlier look after about three months. She said that review would help determine what is getting done, whether the arrangement is working, and where the employee’s time is most needed.
Schmid said the goal is for the auditor and treasurer, as elected officials, to work together on how the position is used. If needed, the Board of Supervisors would step in to help determine where the support should be directed.
The position is not to exceed one year from the start date of employment.
