The 51st annual Glenn Miller Festival will return to Clarinda June 11 through 13 with a full schedule of music, scholarship competitions, special exhibits, food, and new events.

  • Event: 51st annual Glenn Miller Festival
  • Dates: June 11–13, with a special Sunday aircraft display on June 14
  • Location: Clarinda, Iowa
  • Theme: “The Glenn Miller Story”
  • Thursday, June 11
    • 8:15 a.m. — Instrumental scholarship competition
    • 1 p.m. — Vocal scholarship competition
    • 5 p.m. — Kickoff picnic on the Clarinda square
    • 5:45 p.m. — Presentation of colors by the Clarinda Legion
    • 6 p.m. — Glenn Miller Big Band house band performance
  • Friday, June 12
    • 7:30 a.m. — Coffee and donuts
    • 8 a.m. — Stage show with scholarship winners and Glenn Miller Big Band
    • 1 p.m. — Adam Swanson, world champion ragtime pianist
    • 4 p.m. — Glenn Miller Orchestra 1937 Part B
    • 7 p.m. — Glenn Miller Orchestra concert
  • Saturday, June 13
    • Big Band Breakfast at the Clarinda Firehouse
    • 9:30 a.m. — Glenn Miller Story program and orchestra panel
    • 1 p.m. — Gooch performance
    • 3 p.m. — Moonlight Serenade Orchestra
    • 5 p.m. — Tommy Dorsey Orchestra
    • 6:15 p.m. — Festival dinner
    • 7:30 p.m. — Battle of the Bands with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and Glenn Miller Orchestra
  • Saturday museum feature: Traditional Japanese instruments from the Japan America Society of Iowa, approximately 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 14: World War II static aircraft display at Clarinda Airport, 9 a.m. to noon
  • Aircraft display: North American P-51 Mustang and “Sweet Revenge”
  • P-51 ride reservations: 678-589-7433
  • Tickets: Available at glennmiller.org, at the museum, by phone, or during the festival at the high school
  • Memberships: Glenn Miller Birthplace Society memberships start at $40 per year
  • Museum hours: Normally Wednesday through Saturday, 1 to 3 p.m.; festival hours expected to be at least 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
