The crash happened at approximately 11:55 a.m. Thursday, July 2, on U.S. Highway 136, about three miles east of Burlington Junction.

According to the crash report, a 2006 Peterbilt 379 was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 71, while a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling southbound on Highway 71. A 2005 Buick LeSabre was stopped at a stop sign eastbound on U.S. Highway 136 at Highway 71.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the Peterbilt began turning west onto Highway 136. The Chrysler Pacifica attempted to avoid the Peterbilt, but the Peterbilt struck the rear of the Pacifica, causing it to spin and strike the Buick.

The Pacifica sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene. The Peterbilt and Buick both sustained minor damage and were driven from the scene.

Six occupants of the Pacifica were transported by Nodaway County EMS to Mosaic Life Care in Maryville with minor injuries. Those injured included a 30-year-old female driver from College Springs, Iowa; three juvenile female passengers, ages 1, 3 and 5, also from College Springs; and two 24-year-old female passengers from Clarinda, Iowa.

The driver of the Peterbilt was listed as a 57-year-old male from Kansas City, Missouri. The driver of the Buick was listed as a 37-year-old male from Burlington Junction, Missouri. Both were wearing safety devices, according to the report.

The crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, with assistance from other patrol officers and the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office
