Shenandoah CSD Board Advances K-8 HVAC Rebid, and New Exclusion Rule
The northwest-wing project is the piece of the K-8 heat-pump plan Nelson has talked about for more than a year, including during the PPEL campaign. A February bid came in higher than the district was comfortable with. This fall the work was repackaged with alternates, so the board can take the pieces it can afford if the price is still high.
The scope includes the dedicated outdoor air supply system and the heat pumps in the northwest section. The board approved the project and set a public hearing for bid acceptance for Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. “We’re going to move forward with this and take the parts that we can manage financially and make the most sense,” Nelson said.
The student/parent handbook was amended to include revised exclusion guidance from Iowa Health and Human Services, updated Aug. 21. The changes cover measles — exclusion rules for people who have the illness or have been exposed — and a shorter time out of school for strep throat once antibiotics have started. Shenandoah has not had a local measles outbreak, Nelson said, but other parts of the state have.
