The “Food for Thought” series, held monthly at MCMH, brings in regional leaders to discuss how key sectors may evolve over the next 15 to 20 years. The next session is scheduled for April 9 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the hospital’s Carter Room.
This month’s topic will center on the future of education, featuring leadership from Green Hills Area Education Agency. The discussion will explore how learning is changing and what students, parents, and communities can expect moving forward.
According to organizer Larry Brandstetter, recent sessions have already examined topics like artificial intelligence, county government, and rural healthcare.
The upcoming presentation will focus on several key questions:
- What will students learn in the future?
- Where will learning take place?
- Why will education look different than it does today?
Speakers are expected to address major trends including curriculum changes, the rise of school choice, and the increasing role of technology in education.
Another major topic will be the move toward a choice-driven education system, where families have more control over where and how students learn.
The discussion will also touch on declining enrollment in rural schools, which continues to impact funding and available programs across Southwest Iowa.
Additional topics include:
- Regional collaboration between school districts
- The balance between local control and state-level direction
- The long-term impact of legislation on education systems
The event is free to attend and open to the public, with sponsorship from Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, the Red Oak Chamber and Industry Association, and the Montgomery County Economic Development Group.
Community members interested in how education — and other sectors — may evolve in the years ahead are encouraged to attend.
