Nofence technology is gaining traction in Southwest Iowa, and one local producer is already seeing the benefits firsthand.
A local producer is inviting area farmers and ranchers to see Nofnce virtual fencing technology in action during an upcoming field day near Red Oak.
Matt Vermeersch of Mud Ridge Ranch will host a Nofence field day on Saturday, April 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at his farm, located at 1582 200th Street, just west of Red Oak between the airport and the sale barn.
The event will provide a hands-on look at how Nofence virtual fencing works using GPS collars and a mobile app to manage livestock without traditional fencing.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
- See cattle interact with the virtual fencing system
- Watch a live demonstration of moving livestock using the app
- Learn how the collars function and how animals are trained
- Ask questions about setup, costs, and real-world use
The system works by creating digital boundaries that animals learn through sound cues and reinforcement. Producers can adjust grazing areas in real time, offering flexibility for rotational grazing and land management.
The field day is open to anyone interested in livestock management, including cattle, sheep, and goat producers.
Lunch will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance to help with planning.
