Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports injury crash and fugitive arrest on May 2

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported a serious two-vehicle crash and a separate fugitive arrest Friday, May 2.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Montgomery County Communications Center received a report at about 6:46 p.m. May 2 of a two-vehicle accident at Highway 34 and P Avenue. Authorities said a white 2013 Ford F-250 driven by Blake McCann of Glenwood was traveling northbound on P Avenue and failed to stop at the stop sign when it entered Highway 34.

The Ford then struck a white 2012 Chevrolet K2500 driven by Michael Knox of Lenox as it was traveling eastbound on Highway 34, the sheriff’s office said. Both vehicles were totaled.

McCann was transported by helicopter to UNMC in Omaha. Knox was transported by ambulance to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, and his passenger was flown by helicopter to Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha. The accident remains under investigation.

In a separate incident, deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old John William Fritz of Wymore, Nebraska, at about 11:47 p.m. May 2 for being a fugitive from justice.

The sheriff’s office said Fritz had warrants out of Jefferson County, Nebraska, for sexual assault of a child in the third degree, a felony, and sexual assault without consent in the third degree, a misdemeanor. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail and was being held without bond.
