East Mills Community School District is heading into a busy stretch of end-of-year events, with Junior-Senior High Principal Dale Scott highlighting senior celebrations, spring activities and the return of home track meets during a recent interview.
Scott said May is packed with concerts, meets and other school events as the academic year winds down. He pointed to the junior-senior high spring music concert as one recent highlight, where students performed vocal and instrumental selections and seniors received awards.
He also said East Mills recently hosted its first two track meets in more than 15 years, calling it the start of a new era for the school’s track program. Scott credited Activities Director Matt Thornburg and a large group of volunteers for organizing the meets and helping them run smoothly. Schools from the Corner Conference and outside the conference, including Southwest Valley and Shenandoah, took part.
As attention turns to the senior class, Scott outlined several upcoming events. He said a baccalaureate service is scheduled for Sunday, May 10 at 7 p.m., with local churches coming together to celebrate students. He said seniors’ last day of school will be Tuesday, May 12, when East Mills will also hold a public awards celebration at 10 a.m. in the East Gym to recognize scholarships and other honors.
Scott said graduation for the Class of 2026 is scheduled for Sunday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in the East Gym. He noted the ceremony was moved up by 30 minutes this year to help shared Superintendent Mr. Brown travel to Sidney’s graduation later that day.
Beyond graduation season, Scott said East Mills is also wrapping up its second year in the new facility. Looking ahead, he said the school is considering some technology adjustments, including changes related to Chromebook use in junior high, while still aiming to prepare students with the tools they need for learning.
