After nearly being canceled, Emerson Days is back for its 97th year thanks to a group of dedicated local citizens.
EMERSON DAYS, September 12 – 13
Theme: “Stars and Stripes, a Small Town Pride, Keeping Traditions Alive”
Schedule of Events
Saturday, September 12
Vendors & Setup
• Food vendors, craft vendors, and hopefully farmer’s market vendors begin setting up around 12:30 p.m.
• Barricades will be in place around town. Volunteers will direct traffic and vendors.
Parade
• Lineup begins at 1:00 p.m.
• Enter via 410th Street (turns into King Street as you enter city limits), the road next to the Short Stop convenience store on Highway 59.
• Directors will be at the corner of Bradford and King to send vendors down Morton and parade entries down Bradford to Bartlett.
• Parade steps off at 2:00 p.m.
• No pre-registration required — just show up and join the fun. Organizers especially encourage community members to enter floats and entries.
• American Legion color guard will lead the parade.
• EMS, fire units, and tractors will line up on the east side of Morton.
• Kids’ goodie bags provided by Melody Stevens of the Emerson Library and Melissa Mount.
Park Activities (all at the Emerson Park)
• 3:00 p.m. – Three-on-three basketball tournament on the brand-new basketball court. Pony rides and other children’s rides also begin.
• 4:00 p.m. – Rubber duck race hosted by the Emerson Fire Association.
• 4:30 p.m. – Cornhole tournament.
• Throughout the afternoon: carnival games, face painting, henna artist, giant Jenga and Connect Four (donated by the YMCA), “smash a car,” dunk tank (donated by Tom and Peggy Hill), bake sale and cake walk (City Lights Church).
• Tractor show – Indian Creek Museum group will display tractors along the park after the parade.
• Live music by Dirty Jon (the Stevens’ band) in the park during the afternoon.
• 6:00–7:00 p.m. – Foam party (kids will love this one!).
Note: No pre-registration is required for any of the activities. Just show up and enjoy. Organizers will have people on site to direct vendors and answer questions.
Sunday, September 13
• 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Traditional pancake feed at the Emerson Fire Station, hosted by the firefighters. Free-will donation (please be generous — this helps keep the tradition going).
• 10:30 a.m. – Church service in the park, sponsored by City Lights Church of Emerson
