Creston driver arrested after striking parked trailer, leaving scene, police say
A Prescott woman was arrested after Creston Police say she struck a parked trailer on South Maple Street, left the scene, and was later located nearby.
According to an Iowa DOT crash report completed by the Creston Police Department, the crash happened at about 7:17 p.m. on Feb. 21 in Creston, near the intersection of South Maple Street and Monroe Street.
Police report a 2024 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling south on South Maple Street when it struck a parked trailer on the side of the roadway. The Traverse then left the scene, but was located a few blocks away. Police say the driver returned to the crash scene shortly afterward.
The driver told officers she was looking at her phone when the crash happened, according to the report. Police also reported an odor of an alcoholic beverage, and noted the driver had bloodshot, watery eyes and admitted drinking. The report states the driver refused all testing and was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense. A citation was also listed for use of an electronic communication device.
The driver was identified as Robyn Liane Blazek, 36, of Prescott. The trailer was listed as owned by Zachary William Maben of Creston.
Damage estimates listed in the report were approximately $6,000 to the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse and approximately $500 to the parked trailer. The report stated the trailer did not have insurance. No injuries were reported.
