Griswold Elementary Principal Nigel Horton recently joined KCSI to discuss being named the 2026 Elementary Principal of the Year and to share updates from the Griswold Community School District.
Horton says the recognition reflects the accomplishments of the Griswold community and school district over the past decade.
During the interview, Horton discussed the district’s Read Across America Week activities, a community blood drive, upcoming facility improvements, and school budget updates. Students are also participating in a “Read 20” challenge encouraging 20 minutes of reading each day.
If students meet their reading goal, Horton says he may be cooking pancakes on the school roof for them.
The Griswold speech team also had a strong showing at district competition with 11 events advancing to the state individual speech contest on March 14.
