MCMH + Clinics CEO Highlights Volunteers, Nurses, Workforce Development, New Services and EMS Collaboration

Montgomery County Memorial Hospital and Clinics CEO Mike O’Neal joined KCSI to provide an update on hospital priorities, new services, workforce development and community partnerships

  • National Nurses Week: May 6–12.
  • Volunteer recognition: MCMH recently held a breakfast honoring hospital volunteers.
  • Hospital leadership updates: Reports included financial planning, expenses, grant opportunities and service expansion.
  • Robotic surgery: MCMH has applied for grant funding to help bring robotics to Montgomery County.
  • Estimated robotics cost: More than $2 million for the equipment, plus roughly $500,000 for sterilization equipment.
  • Oncology expansion: MCMH is working with Shenandoah Medical Center and other regional hospitals on a grant-supported oncology hub-and-spoke model.
  • Workforce development: LPN/RN Clinical Ladder program is in year two.
  • Education partnerships: Local colleges, Iowa Western, Southwestern Community College, SWITCH and the FORGE program with Red Oak Community Schools.
  • MD West One partnership: Expanded pain specialty, neurosurgery and orthopedic services.
  • New shoulder surgeon: Dr. Sandbro with MD West One expected to see patients two days per month.
  • Pharmacy-led clinic: Warfarin/Coumadin clinic
  • EMS transfers: County supervisors, city leaders and the hospital are working together on transfer challenges.
