Means and Foley highlight college fair, fall play, and Veterans Day program at Southwest Valley
Shona Means, teacher leader at Southwest Valley’s Enarson (Anderson) Elementary, and fifth-grade teacher Will Foley stopped by KCSI Tuesday morning with a list of upcoming events for families and the community.
A college fair is scheduled for tomorrow at the Southwest Valley High School auditorium. Twenty-eight colleges and organizations are expected, and nine schools will attend. Means said it is a large event for the high school to host.
The fall play, “The Twelve Huntsmen,” runs Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The show is inspired by Brothers Grimm tales. Tickets are available at the door.
Other items this week include a blood mobile tomorrow at the Villisca Middle School, a Washington, D.C. trip parent meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the middle school, Tough Man Volleyball (FBLA-sponsored) on Thursday, and the Corning handmade market on Friday at the Southwest Valley Activity Center.
Veterans Day programs — Nov. 11
Two community programs are set for Wednesday, Nov. 11.
• High school program at 9 a.m. at the Activity Center in Corning.
• Middle school assembly at 10 a.m. in the Villisca middle school gymnasium. Open to the public. Veterans and families are invited for coffee and donuts starting at 9:30 a.m. The program is organized by the middle school student council.
Foley’s fifth-graders will perform a reader’s theater about the American flag, covering the meaning of the stripes, stars, and colors, plus the symbolism of folding the flag. Several students will help fold the flag during the performance. Anderson Elementary students will also make cards and pictures for the veterans. The fifth-graders plan to practice the flag-folding for nursing home residents the week before.
