Montgomery County Fair Queen Contest Accepting Contestants
The Montgomery County Fair Queen Contest is once again looking for young women interested in representing the county, taking part in fair traditions, and gaining a memorable leadership experience.
Dawn LeRette, who has helped with the contest for many years, said the Montgomery County Fair Queen program dates back to 1970, when Peggy Peterson of Stanton was crowned as the county’s first fair queen. Since then, the contest has continued as a long-standing fair tradition, giving young women the opportunity to build confidence, meet new people, and serve as role models for younger fair participants.
The reigning Montgomery County Fair Queen is Delaney True of Villisca. True said her experience helped her step outside her comfort zone and meet new people, including other county fair queens during the Iowa State Fair.
Contestants in the Montgomery County Fair Queen Contest take part in a judging process that includes presentations, interviews, and formalwear. Participants also have the opportunity to be involved throughout the county fair, including handing out ribbons, wearing sashes, and representing the contest during fair activities.
Only one contestant will go on to represent Montgomery County at the Iowa State Fair Queen Contest, but the goal is to make the local contest a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
