Red Oak Child Development Center nears capacity as new director settles in

 

The Red Oak Child Development Center has grown from a four-classroom startup into one of the largest early childhood operations in the area, board president Laura Kloewer and new executive director Jordan Lunzman told KCSI

 

 

The nonprofit center is licensed for 145 children, ages 6 weeks through 12 years. Enrollment currently sits at 135. Hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The program includes infant through preschool classrooms, three-year-old preschool, before- and after-school care, and full-time summer care for school-age kids.

 

The center opened in August 2020 in the old Washington School building at 400 West Second Street — now the Early Childhood Development Center — across from the police station. The Red Oak Community School District still owns the building and runs four-year-old preschool there. ROCDC rents the rest of the space.

 

Lunzman took over at the end of June. She grew up near Farragut, earned a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, and has worked with children for about 12 years. She and her husband live outside town with their two daughters.
