Red Oak City Cleanup drew 420 cars and 90 curb pickups, New carpet and special hours at the RO Public Library, New Flagpole in Fountain Square
Saturday’s citywide cleanup, the fourth, counted 420 cars through the fairgrounds in seven hours, plus 90 curbside pickups. Kotter said the spring drop-off was 506 or 508 cars. Last fall was 370. “We had about 50 more cars from last fall,” she said. The staples were garbage, scrap, appliances, e-waste and tires. Shredding was offered for a half day, the second time the city has added it. She told council Monday that household hazardous waste costs about $7,000 just to mobilize and may be worth doing every two years. Weights and invoices are still coming.
The library will close for a full re-carpet. Monday, Oct. 19, the building is closed while the second floor is organized. Oct. 20–24, only the first floor is open. The week of Oct. 26, the first floor is done and the library is closed. Staff will be in the building purging. Cotter asked regular users to check out extra books and plan ahead.
Pete and Jolene Crawford are donating the cost of a new flagpole at Fountain Square to replace a rusty pole toward the center of the park, behind the rock. The city will fly the U.S. and Iowa flags on one pole instead of two older ones. Kotter said the order is planned this week, with new concrete and a light. Install is hoped for this fall.
