RED OAK, Iowa — Red Oak Police Chief Justin Ramey and the Red Oak Police Department report the investigation of a two-vehicle property damage accident that occurred Friday, May 29, at approximately 8:50 a.m. near the intersection of 8th Street and West Washington Avenue.

According to the report, a 14-year-old female was driving a 2013 Ford Escape northbound on 8th Street and had stopped at the stop sign at Washington Avenue. The vehicle then began to proceed through the intersection.

Also involved was Carol Jane Sparr, who was driving a 2015 Chrysler 200S westbound on Washington Avenue. The report states Sparr came to a stop at the same intersection, looked, but did not see the Ford Escape before attempting to proceed through the intersection.

The Sparr-driven vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the Ford Escape, causing disabling damage to the Ford Escape and minor damage to the Chrysler.

The Ford Escape sustained an estimated $7,000 in damage and was towed from the scene. The Chrysler 200S sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage and was driven from the scene.

Sparr was issued a written warning for failure to yield the right-of-way.

No injuries were listed in the report.

The accident was investigated by the Red Oak Police Department.
