Red Oak Police report two-vehicle accident at 2nd and Coolbaugh

RED OAK, Iowa — The Red Oak Police Department reports a two-vehicle accident Friday morning at the intersection of North 2nd Street and East Coolbaugh Street.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:57 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026.

According to the accident report, 87-year-old Joyce Karen Halvin was driving a 2020 Nissan Rogue south on North 2nd Street and attempting to cross the East Coolbaugh Street intersection. At the same time, a 2020 Ram 2500 pickup driven by 34-year-old Bryce Clinton Allen was traveling east in the 100 block of East Coolbaugh Street.

The report states it was unknown whether Halvin stopped at the stop sign before entering the intersection. Traffic on the one-way portion of East Coolbaugh Street does not stop at the intersection.

The Allen-driven pickup struck the Halvin-driven Nissan while the Nissan was in the intersection. The Nissan sustained disabling damage estimated at approximately $10,000 and was towed from the scene. The Ram pickup sustained minor damage estimated at approximately $5,000 and was driven from the scene.

Halvin was cited for failure to obey a stop or yield right-of-way sign.

The accident was investigated by the Red Oak Police Department.
