The Shenandoah Medical Center Foundation is supporting an ambitious collection of building projects, healthcare improvements and community programs designed to strengthen medical care throughout southwest Iowa.

The first phase of SMC’s proposed building project would move emergency medical services out of the hospital and into a new facility on the medical center campus. The approximately $3 million project would include three ambulance bays, living quarters for EMS personnel working 24-hour shifts and space for professional and community training.
The proposed building would be located near the road leading to the SMC Emergency Department. The project would also create additional parking near both the EMS facility and emergency department.
Additional phases of the hospital improvement plan would include two new labor and delivery suites, an in-house MRI, renovations and equipment improvements in the radiology department and larger rooms where families could gather with patients during serious illnesses or end-of-life situations.
Community members may learn more about the building plans by attending one of the Foundation’s monthly breakfasts, where project information and blueprints are available.
