The Stanton community continues to see strong local engagement, with new projects, upcoming events, and continued investment in preserving its history highlighted during a recent community update interview.
Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center Project
A major focus of the update is the ongoing effort to restore the historic Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center, housed in Stanton’s original school building built in 1885.
The current project aims to replace 56 aging windows, many of which were reduced in size following storm damage decades ago. The total project cost is estimated at $150,000, with roughly $2,200 per window for replacement and naming opportunities.
“We really want to get this done this year,” Hicks said, noting fundraising letters have been sent to about 1,500 alumni, residents, and supporters.
The center serves as a hub for local history, genealogy research, and exhibits—including a notable connection to a Stanton resident who perished on the Titanic.
