Stanton Community Schools are in the heart of a busy spring season, with student-athletes, academic programs, and upcoming events all in full swing.
Track coach John Mainquist says the season has been active, with multiple meets each week and a young team made up largely of freshmen and sophomores. Despite the demanding schedule, he says the group has shown strong improvement and teamwork.
“They’re a fun group,” Mainquist said. “Very supportive of each other. Whether they’re competing or not, they’re cheering each other on all the way through the meet.”
Several student-athletes joined the interview, including sophomores Lauren Roberts, Kennedy Stites, and Piper French. Each is involved in multiple events, from hurdles and relays to discus and distance races, while also participating in other school activities like volleyball, basketball, and fine arts.
The team is seeing measurable progress this season, including personal bests and a new school record. Freshman Leilani Foster-Say recently set a new Stanton high jump record at 5 feet 2 inches, breaking a mark that had stood since 1996.
Outside of athletics, Stanton Schools are rolling out new initiatives and preparing for end-of-year activities:
A new “Book Blast” program for elementary students is encouraging reading by helping students earn books for summer. Every student will receive at least one book, with additional books based on participation and fundraising.
The district has also announced Tabor Strong as the new K–12 principal, who expressed excitement about building relationships and supporting student success in the Stanton community.
Other highlights include:
  • Midterm grade checks to help students finish the year strong
  • Continued need for Teammates mentors
  • After prom fundraising efforts
  • Upcoming PTSO plant sale
  • April 28 (3:30–4:15 PM)
  • April 29–30 (7:30 AM–4:15 PM)
