Community engagement continues to thrive in Stanton, with the Viking Center serving as a central hub for recreation, events, and local programs.
Viking Center Director Justin Miller shared that the facility, which opened in 2014, has grown significantly in both programming and participation. The multi-purpose center houses youth sports, a fitness facility, a preschool, community meeting space, and the public library, making it a cornerstone of the community.
Memberships are available to anyone, not just Stanton residents, with options for families, individuals, and students. A family membership costs $400 annually and includes access to the facility along with free participation in youth sports programs. Members receive key card access from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Youth programming remains a major focus, with opportunities beginning as early as preschool age. Programs include soccer, T-ball, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball. Approximately 120 youth are currently participating in baseball and softball alone, supported by a strong network of volunteer coaches and parents.
Morgan Lewellen, a Stanton Friends board member, also introduced her new business, Lewellen Media. The venture focuses on photography services tailored to real estate professionals and business marketing. She is now accepting clients as she returns to photography with a business-focused approach.
Several upcoming events were highlighted during the update:
  • Marketplace off Main at The Oley
  • Library Book Club on March 28
  • Easter Egg Hunt on April 4
  • Var Fest on April 11 featuring a chili cook-off and guest speakers
  • Citywide garage sales on April 25
  • Citywide cleanup on May 2
Community amenities continue to expand, including popular walking trails and a community garden with available plots for residents.
For more information about the Viking Center, individuals can call 712-829-2900, email vikingcenter@myfmtc.com, or visit the Stanton Friends Facebook page.
