Montgomery County Family YMCA gears up for spring programs, events, and summer day camp
The Montgomery County Family YMCA is rolling out a full slate of spring activities and community events, according to Program Director Tymberlee Bentley. Bentley, who stepped into the role on December 1, 2025, says interest is already building as families look ahead to warmer weather and more opportunities for kids to stay active.
Youth Soccer (Ages 5–7)
The YMCA will offer a youth soccer program for ages 5 to 7, practicing Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15–6:15 p.m. at the Kelly Park Soccer Field. The sign-up deadline is March 1, with practices expected to begin around the third week of March. Volunteers will be needed depending on participation.
Swim Club (Noncompetitive, up to age 18)
A noncompetitive swim club begins the second week of March, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00–7:00 p.m. The program is designed to help swimmers prepare for summer swim team. Participants must have passed the YMCA pink band swim test (which allows access to the full pool without a life jacket).

Track Club (Grades 1–6)
The YMCA’s Track Club, led by Sue Ann French, starts April 7 at the Red Oak High School track. Sessions run Tuesdays from 5:15–6:00 p.m. and are open to 1st through 6th graders. Cost is $10 for members and $25 for non-members.

Private Swim Lessons (Year-round)
The YMCA continues to offer private swim lessons year-round. Pricing is five 30-minute sessions for $60 (members) and $100 (non-members). Lessons can be scheduled flexibly with instructors and are available for children or adults.

Summer Day Camp (June–late July)Summer day camp is planned for students entering 1st–6th grade in fall 2026, running Monday through Thursday from 12:00–4:00 p.m., starting the week of June 1 and continuing through the last week of July. Activities include games, projects, community outings, and swimming at both the indoor and outdoor pools. Bentley noted that SWITA transportation has been available in past years to pick kids up and take them to the Y. The YMCA is also seeking an assistant day camp coordinator.
Healthy Kids Day (Free event)
Healthy Kids Day is set for April 18 from 1:00–4:00 p.m. It’s a free drop-in event promoting healthy living with activities like the Wibit, mini golf, and yard games. The Iowa Extension Office is expected to participate as well.

Shamrock Shuffle (5K + 2-mile option)
The Shamrock Shuffle is scheduled for March 14 with an 8:00 a.m. start at the YMCA. Participants can choose a 5K or a 2-mile run/walk, and dogs are welcome. Early bird registration ends March 7 ($20); after that it’s $25, with day-of registration available.

Picklepalooza Tournament (Singles + Doubles)
Picklepalooza will be held April 25, with singles at 9:00 a.m. and doubles at 10:00 a.m. Registration is open now and closes April 18. Entry fees are $25 for singles and $50 for doubles. Bentley says pickleball continues to grow at the YMCA, which offers indoor courts and equipment for players.
