Cass County Sheriff’s Office Reports Recent Arrests

ATLANTIC, Iowa — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office released information on several arrests that occurred between February 27 and March 5, 2026. All criminal charges are merely accusations and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, on February 27, 2026, Matthew Bernard Steffens, 45, of Atlantic, was arrested on a charge of sex offender registration – first offense for failure to update relevant information. Steffens was booked into the Cass County Jail and held.

On March 2, 2026, deputies arrested three individuals in Atlantic in connection with controlled substance charges. Summer Lynn Cole, 40, of Atlantic, was arrested on charges of gathering where controlled substances are used and possession of controlled substances. Shea Michael Young, 37, of Atlantic, was arrested on the same charges of gathering where controlled substances are used and possession of controlled substances. Amber Lynn Rhodes, 41, of Atlantic, was also arrested on the same charges of gathering where controlled substances are used and possession of controlled substances. All three were transported to the Cass County Jail where they were booked and held.

On March 3, 2026, Charles Albert Mace Jr., 35, of Atlantic, was arrested on charges of sex offender verification violation – first offense and two counts of sex offender registration – first offense for failure to update relevant information. Mace was transported to the Cass County Jail, booked, and later released on bond.

On March 5, 2026, deputies arrested Terry Lee Ranney, 67, of Massena, on a Cass County warrant for civil contempt of court. Ranney was transported to the Cass County Jail where he was booked and later released on bond.
