RED OAK, Iowa — A two-vehicle accident was reported Thursday morning at the intersection of 8th Street and U.S. Highway 34 East in Red Oak.

According to the Red Oak Police Department report, the accident happened at 9:36 a.m. on April 9, 2026. Officer Jadon Miller investigated the crash.

Authorities said Unit 1 was a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 76-year-old Ray Franklin Guffey of Stanton. Unit 2 was a 1992 Buick Century driven by 96-year-old Carolyn Joanne Glassinger of Red Oak.

The report states Glassinger was stopped at the stop sign on 8th Street at the intersection with U.S. Highway 34, facing north.  Glassinger said she looked both ways but did not see Guffey’s vehicle, which was traveling west on U.S. Highway 34. She then attempted to proceed through the intersection, and Guffey’s vehicle struck the passenger side front area of Glassinger’s vehicle.

Glassinger was transported by Red Oak EMS to MCMH. The report says she was conscious, and Guffey declined further transport to the hospital. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed from the scene. Estimated damage was listed at $10,000 for each vehicle.

Glassinger was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield right of way. Weather conditions were listed as cloudy and rainy, with wet road conditions at the time of the crash.

The Red Oak Police Department investigated the accident, with assistance from Red Oak EMS.
