Red Oak Community School District Approved to Join Western Iowa Conference Beginning 2026–2027

The Red Oak Community School District has received formal approval from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Iowa High School Athletic Association to transition from the Hawkeye 10 Conference to the Western Iowa Conference beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.

The approval follows a request submitted by the district and is contingent upon verification that the Red Oak Board of Education formally approved the change. Documentation of the Board’s action has been provided to the IGHSAU/IHSAA Conference Realignment Committee.

“This transition represents an important step for our athletic programs and student activities,” said Superintendent Ron Lorenz. “We appreciate the consideration given by both the IGHSAU and IHSAA throughout the review process and look forward to the opportunities and competitive balance that participation in the Western Iowa Conference will provide for our student-athletes.”

The change will take effect with the start of the 2026–2027 academic year, at which time Red Oak High School will begin competing in the Western Iowa Conference for all applicable athletic programs.

Additional information regarding scheduling and conference alignment will be shared as details become available.
