Students at Stanton Community Schools are celebrating Read Across America Week while preparing for a busy schedule of performances, testing, athletics and community events.
Third grade teacher John Manquist says the week has included themed days inspired by Dr. Seuss, along with a special opportunity for older students to read with younger students.
“It’s one of the things I really enjoy about a small school,” he said. “The younger students look up to the older ones, and the older students really enjoy helping them.”
The district is also preparing for statewide ISASP testing beginning March 10 for grades three through five, followed by grades six through eleven the following week.
Tonight’s elementary musical performances begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Stanton High School gym, featuring Pajama Party by kindergarten through third graders and Wizard of Oz Junior by fourth through sixth graders.
Several additional events are coming up soon including the all-school play Blather, Blarney, and Balderdash on March 13, the Stanton Dance Team Showcase on Sunday evening, and the Corner Conference Art Fair later this month.
